Dr. Ellis was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. He graduated from The University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1995 with honors earning a B.S. degree in biology and a minor in chemistry.
Dr. Ellis furthered his studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine after earning a Dean’s Scholarship to study at this prestigious southern institution. It was during his Internal Medicine Residency in Birmingham, at Baptist Health Systems, that Dr. Ellis developed a passion for patients with renal disease. “I see myself and my family members in the eyes of many of my patients … we share the same roots, heritage, and genetic predisposition to hypertension, diabetes, and thus kidney disease.”
Dr. Ellis went on to pursue a nephrology fellowship at The University of Alabama School of Medicine after completing a Chief Resident year at The Baptist Hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama. He is double board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology. He has taken his skills in nephrology to a higher level by seeking further training in Interventional Nephrology and renal ultrasound.
Dr. Ellis is always challenging himself to become a better physician to his patients by seeking new understanding into the disease processes that challenge them. He is passionate about community education and is a frequent presenter at community and regional health fairs.
He hopes to reach more people and interact with more professionals to further the pursuit of renal disease prevention and treatment.
